| Alexander City is a small community located in
east central Alabama. The city is the home of Central Alabama Community
College, an outstanding public school system, and many recreational
facilities and activities. The Charles E. Bailey, Sr. Sportsplex is a
212 acre public park that contains a football stadium equal to that of a
small college. The sportsplex also has soccer fields, softball fields, a
horse riding arena, gymnasium, swimming pool, and the Imagination
Station Playground. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is located
about twenty miles from Alexander City. This 2,040 acre park dedicated
to the memory of U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in the
battle of Horseshoe Bend on March 27, 1814. Wind Creek State Park just
seven miles southeast of Alexander City is on the shores of Lake Martin.
They have a fully equipped campground that contains 642 sites over 320
acres.
The Lake Martin area is just a three hour drive to
Atlanta, 90 minutes to Birmingham, and less than one hour to
Montgomery. And for all the SEC fans Auburn University is located only
45 minutes away and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa is about a
two hour drive .
Residents of Alexander City enjoy the beautiful
Lake Martin which is located just minutes from downtown. Lake Martin is
a 44,000 acre lake with over 750 miles of shoreline. It was formed when
Martin Dam was built on the Tallapoosa River in the early 1920's.
